Press On Toward the Goal

I love soccer!!! The team that "presses on towards the goal" is usually victorious. But this idea is not just in soccer. As Christians, we are called to "press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus." One of my favorite preachers, Charles Haddon Spurgeon, spoke on this passage in 1873:

"The condition in which a believer should always be found is that of progress: his motto must be, 'Onward and upward!' Nearly every figure by which Christians are described in the Bible implies this. We are plants of the Lord’s field, but we are sown that we may grow— 'First the blade, then the ear, then the full corn in the ear."
